Switchboard Description | Automatic Ringing 4-frequency Syncromonic (30,42,54,66) and 20 for rural and toll. Syncrhomonic was more modern than harmonicbecause it had less problems with cross ringing. This board represented proof that the independant was more modern than Bells. The town was owned by bell and had a mageneto office with the rural lines being switched by a municipal group. There was a lot of bad feeling between the Bell operating company and the municpal company until Bell sold it to the Municipal company in 1933 which made the major upgrade to common battery 4-party selective ringing in tnow. Most likely they used type 34 & 35 handset phones. I'm sure the people held the handset away from their ear until they heard the click of the operator when the calling line was answered. AE did not have a varistor in the receive circuit. |
